Dr. Nicole Hinchy has been a teacher, supervisor, attending provider, coworker and friend throughout my dental career. She is someone that is always willing to help others even when she has her own tasks to work on. Her commitment to helping others has always been inspiring.
I did a service trip to rural Kentucky while in dental school. We were providing dental care to an area that does not regularly have access to such services and the need was very high. I got to see how things that many of us take for granted, such as being able to get a broken tooth removed or a filling done, can be the greatest relief to someone who has been suffering with it for weeks and months.
While in dental school, I got to participate in a mission trip to Senegal in West Africa. We spent a week there providing dental care to a population that rarely has access to dental care. I got to see how access to care is a priviledge many of us don't realize we have, and this has helped shape how I practice with the population I work with.
Life is all about experiences and I believe that it is only by trying new things and seeing new places that we can truly learn who we are as people.
