By adding community events, Neighborhood is expanding access to healthcare.
Neighborhood Health Center unveiled a new look and focus for its Health in Motion Mobile Unit on January 24, 2024. The inaugural community event for the mobile unit was a vaccine and COVID testing clinic in North Collins, open to everyone, from 2:30-6:30 p.m. at BestSelf Behavioral Health, 2101 Spruce Street. Flu and COVID vaccines for ages 6+ were available, as well as take home COVID test kits and N95 masks. No appointment or insurance was required.
Neighborhood’s mobile unit got its start in 2019 as a partnership with Say Yes Buffalo, Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York, the John R. Oishei Foundation, Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and Buffalo Public Schools to offer healthcare services to students on Buffalo Public Schools campuses. In December 2023, Neighborhood became the sole owner of the mobile unit and began adding community events to, open to everyone, to its schedule, in addition to the Buffalo Public Schools events, to provide healthcare services to more people.
The ownership of this mobile unit is a huge step in Neighborhood Health Center’s mission of achieving health equity in our community and providing high-quality, compassionate care for all. Beyond expanding on accessibility to care in Buffalo, the mobile unit will allow Neighborhood the ability to venture to underserved areas including rural areas of WNY.
