As the colder weather approaches, so does another public health concern that we must contend with: Flu Season.
If the right precautions aren’t taken into account, a dual threat of the flu and COVID-19 has physicians and public health experts warning of a potential “twindemic” that could further sicken the population and overwhelm hospitals.
As we await a vaccine for COVID-19 – social distancing, masking, washing your hands and regular testing remain the best strategies for protecting yourself against the novel virus. However, in addition to these precautionary measures, we must keep in mind that we actually have a vaccine for the flu that greatly reduces risk of influenza infection.
In short, continuing to follow the hygienic practices in place to prevent COVID-19 and getting your flu shot is your best bet for staying healthy this Fall and Winter!
To help control the double threat of flu and COVID-19, get your flu shot now! As recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), getting your flu shot sooner can protect you from a flu season that typically ramps up in the fall and peaks between December and February.
