Flat feet – the sole of the foot touching the ground – is normal condition in young children. Nearly every child will have flat feet until the age of five or six, but approximately 15-20% of children will never develop an arch. Even for those who don’t develop an arch, it’s not a problem most of the time. Any pain in the foot of a child is not normal though and should prompt a visit to a podiatrist.
