Honoring the courageous Black civil rights activists who founded the first community health centers.
February is Black History Month.
Community health centers, such at Neighborhood, across the country exist today due to the courageous work of Dr. John W. Hatch, Dr. Marilyn Gaston, Dr. Aaron Shirley, Jessie Collins Trice, BSN, MPH, Dr. Robert Smith, Janie B. Geer, LPN, Dr. Lula Dorsey and many more civil rights activists.
These activists and physicians, who founded the earliest health centers, believed that we could fight poverty and empower communities with health and opportunity. Healthcare is a human right, and the fight for equitable healthcare for all continues to be critical.
Neighborhood celebrates all of our Black employees, patients, and community members, and commits to continue advocating for health equity for all.
