Who has been influential in your career path?
I have two wonderful brothers who have pushed me and have always loved me. I would not have accomplished half of what I have done without them. I have always wanted to outdo them, reach a goal higher than theirs, but have always known that if I fail, they will be there for me. They push me, they believe in me when no one else does. It is because of their love and support that I am where I am today.
Where did you grow up?
I am a California girl born and raised, but Buffalo has welcomed me with open arms and given me a second home. I love giving back to the community that has become like family to me.
What do you enjoy doing when you're not working?
Swimming, water sports, and surfing
Describe a time in your life when you experienced, or witnessed, the importance of good quality healthcare.
I watched a provider triage and evaluate a laboring patient who had no prenatal care and a history of substance abuse. This provider did it without judgment, efficiently, and in a way that made the patient feel she genuinely cared for her. This allowed the patient to have her needs met quickly and to start an honest conversation that led to better care for her and her baby.
What is something about your education experience that is unique?
I first earned my bachelor's degree in something other than the medical field, then decided to go back to school to become a nurse, then a midwife, because I wanted to spend the rest of my life making a difference in people's lives. I wanted to be in the trenches helping.
