Frequently Asked Questions
At Neighborhood Health Center, our top priority is the health and safety of our patients, staff and community. If you cannot come into the office, or if you do not feel comfortable doing so, Neighborhood offers TeleHealth as an alternate way to receive care. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions below for more information on our TeleHealth option. Please talk to your provider if you’re interested in converting your upcoming appointment to a TeleHealth appointment.
What is TeleHealth?
TeleHealth is the practice of caring for patients remotely (via telephone and/or video) when the provider and patient are not physically present with each other. All you need is video and audio capability from your smartphone, tablet or desktop/laptop computer to be seen for a visit you would normally get in office.
*Certain types of appointments may not be appropriate for a TeleHealth visit. Your provider team will let you know if your visit can be by TeleHealth.
What equipment do I need?
You will a smartphone, tablet or desktop/laptop computer that has a camera, microphone and internet access.
You will need to download the Zoom App. To prepare for your TeleHealth appointment, see the links above to download the Zoom app. You can also view instructions on how to download the app here.
What should I do to prepare?
Be sure your smartphone, tablet or computer is charged or plugged in. Find a quiet space for your visit. If you have a scale, blood pressure cuff, measuring tape or a glucometer, have these ready so you can give information to your healthcare provider.
Just like at your regular visits, try not to do other things at the same time. Focus on paying attention to your conversation with your healthcare provider.
Do I have to create a Zoom account to have a TeleHealth appointment?
No, you do not need to create a Zoom account for your appointment. Once you download the app, you will be ready for the day of your appointment. On the day of your visit, a staff member will share a meeting number with you. You will use this meeting number to join your visit.

What happens on the day of my visit?
On the day of your appointment, you will get a call to complete your preregistration. You will also get a call with your Zoom meeting number to type into your Zoom app and join the meeting.
Allow access to your camera and microphone to join the audio and video so you can see and hear your healthcare provider on the screen.
If any problems occur with the connection, your provider may call you instead.
Are TeleHealth visits recorded?
No. TeleHealth visits are not recorded and comply with all HIPAA regulations.
Are TeleHealth visits private and secure?
Yes, our staff will always be in a space where they can securely call you. Our healthcare providers also have secure access to our Electronic Health Record, so they can see your records.
Will my insurance cover TeleHealth?
Yes, most insurance plans will cover this visit as if it was an in-person visit. Insurance plans will also waive the co-pay for your TeleHealth visit. However, if you receive a bill, call our billing office at 716-875-2904 so we can help you contact your insurance provider.
If I'm on the sliding scale or don't have insurance, can I have a TeleHealth visit?
Yes, all Neighborhood Health Center patients can participate in TeleHealth, if appropriate. Contact our office through the portal or at 716-875-2904 so we can review your account and get you scheduled for your TeleHealth visit.
What are my options if I don't have a smartphone, tablet, or computer with video capabilities?
You still have the opportunity to be seen for an in-office visit at one of our locations. Contact us through the patient portal or call 716-875-2904 and we can discuss your options.
